Bio:

Dr. Rasheed M. Fakhri graduated from the college of medicine –Baghdad university, specialized in orthopedic surgery in 2001after completing the Iraqi board. He worked in Iraq in different hospitals then moved to Jordan in 2006 to join MSF (doctors without borders). His main activities in MSF were with the reconstructive surgery program (RSP) that provides reconstructive surgeries for victims of violence in the Middle East.

The previous experience in Iraq with war surgery added more to Dr. Rasheed’s ability to participate in the initiation and the development of this project, publishing medical articles about war surgeries as well as spreading technical communication messages and presentations. The technical aspects discussed were bone infections, reconstructions of non-unions with or without bone gaps, antibiotics stewardship, functional outcomes and patients’ quality of life after reconstructive surgeries.

 

Dr. Nagham Hussein
Antibiotic Stewardship and Infectious Diseases Specialist,

Bio:

Dr. Nagham Hussein, graduated from the college of medicine –Baghdad university, specialized in Community medicine as a Master degree in 1995 and then Family Medicine in 1998 after completing the Iraqi board. She worked in Iraq in different hospitals, and she worked with the WHO as a program Manager in Health information system until 2006 then moved to Jordan and joined MSF (Doctors Without Borders) in 2007.

Dr. Nagham has long experience in the treatment of critically ill patients suffers from severe infections with Multi- drug resistant Bacteria in addition to treatment of Extreme drug resistant infection and poly microbial infections. In 2014 MSF OCP was the first mission started the position of Antibiotic Stewardship Manager which was started by Dr. Nagham which is a coherent set of actions which promote the responsible use of antimicrobials. It is applied to actions at the individual level as well as the national and global level.

Dr. Nagham spreads her experience in the treatment of different types of infections and she published medical articles about war related Osteomyelitis and the activities of Antibiotic Stewardship in the Hospital setting.

A comprehensive training to the medical doctors, to the surgeons and to the surgical assistants have been done by Dr Nagham and it will continue to be given to the MENA region to disseminate and implement the Antibiotic Stewardship in every MSF’s hospital.

Verdiana Morando, adjunct professor in healthcare management at Gulf Medical University, College of Healthcare management, economics and policy; Head of eduction and consultancy at GSD Healthcare, Dubai (UAE), International office of San Donato Hospital Group; research fellow at the Cergas Research Centre on health and social care services management at Bocconi University (Milan). She has an experience of more than fifteen years in healthcare management and health policymaking. She holds a European Ph.D. (Marie Curie Programme) in Organisational and Managerial Sciences from Manchester Business School, an MSC in Commissioning Health Services and health policy from Birmingham University (Health Service Management Centre), an MSC in Human Resources Management from the University of Milan, and PG certificate in policy analysis from the University of Milan. She graduated in Theoretical and Moral Philosophy at the Catholic University of Milan. Among her work experience, she worked at Bocconi Business School as associate professor of practice management in the Health Policy Division; she was a consultant at the Lombardy Region Institute for research and statics for the strategy unit of health policy analysis, and at ISTUD Foundation Business School (health practice). She joined several international research programs, including projects with NIHR (National Institute for Health Research) in the UK, the European Health Observatory on Healthcare System and Policy, the WHO expert panels for Healthcare system Governance. She is a member of different international management academies and articles on peer-reviewed journals and health policy reports and white papers.

Professor Asif Ahmed is a British vascular scientist whose laboratory was the first to signal the importance of protective factors to prevent preeclampsia in pregnancy. Preeclampsia, a life-threatening condition in pregnancy affecting mothers and their unborn babies, affects 1 in 12 of 130 million pregnancies each year with an annual cost burden of 100 billion dollars. Professor Ahmed’s goal is to make preeclampsia history.

Professor Ahmed is the Executive Chairman and CEO of MirZyme Therapeutics Limited, which is developing predictive AI-assisted diagnostic tests and targeted therapeutics for preeclampsia. He also the founder of the Aston Medical School, the most socially inclusive and internationally connected medical school in the U.K.

  • Professor Selva Titus Chacko is currently the Dean of the College of Nursing at Gulf Medical University. She has more than 35 years of teaching, clinical & administrative experience.
  • She is graduated from Christian Medical College (CMC) Vellore, South India with a BSN in 1982, Masters in Nursing in 1992 in Medical Surgical Nursing with sub specialization in Critical Care Nursing. She has been a Faculty of CMC since 1995 after her Post Graduation and moved up the ladder as Professor over the years and continued to teach Undergraduate & Postgraduate students.
  • She was also the Nurse Manager for Oncology & Hematology wards in the hospital as the Institution practiced dual responsibility for Faculty. She obtained her Doctorate in Hematology Nursing from The Tamil Nadu Dr. M. G. R Medical University. Chennai, India. Her major area of focus was on Prevention of infection in Immune compromised Hematological patients.
  • Prof. Chacko’s interest in the area of Oncology & Hematology Nursing, led her to avail a 3 -year Study leave from the Institution (1998-2001) and obtain a specialized training in Oncology & Hematology Nursing from Royal Adelaide Hospital, Adelaide in South Australia. She was instrumental in setting up the State-of -the art Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) unit in CMC Vellore as the Head of the Nursing Department, which today is the leading BMT center in the country.
  • She has held various administrative positions over 20 years in the College of Nursing, CMC, Vellore as Additional Deputy Dean, Registrar, Deputy Dean & recently since (2014-2019) as the Dean of the College of Nursing. She was instrumental in developing collaborations with many Universities abroad mainly from USA, UK, Scotland and Sweden.
  • Being the first and the leading College in the country, the successful ‘Integration model of Nursing Education & Practice’ has been shared and showcased with National & International visitors, students & faculty
  • The College of Nursing, CMC Vellore is a WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing & Midwifery Prof. Chacko has been the ‘Executive Committee Member’ of the SEARO Region, Global Network of WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing and Midwifery for a period of four years from (2016-2020). Prof. Manda Venkatramana currently the Vice Chancellor Academics and Dean, College of Medicine at Gulf Medical University. He has been associated with the Thumbay Group for more than 16 years. He is a Clinical Professor of Surgery and Consultant Surgeon at Thumbay Hospital, Ajman. He graduated from Saurashtra University, India and is a Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons from Edinburgh and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, UK. Prof. Manda has more than 29 years of teaching and clinical experience as a General Surgeon and more than a decade of administrative experience in a medical university. He is the recipient of the ‘Best Teacher Awards’ conferred on the basis of popular choice by students. He introduced new student-centered pedagogy and assessment strategies considered international best-practices and innovative new programs like the ‘Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences’ and ‘Associate Degree in Preclinical Sciences’ which are the first of its kind in the country. He was instrumental in establishing the American Heart Association Accredited Life Support Training Center offering Basic and Advanced Life Support Training Courses at GMU in his capacity as the Director of the state-of-the-art Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare. Prof. Manda’s areas of clinical research include ‘Diabetic foot’ and ‘Urolithiasis’ which resulted in publications in peer-reviewed national and international journals. He has also contributed to chapters in books. His special interest in educational research is in the area of ‘Early Patient Contact (EPC) and its impact on the communication skills of medical students.’ This action research resulted in the implementation of EPC as a regular part of the medical curriculum which was much appreciated by students, and also was presented in many international medical education conferences. Under his leadership, the college has grown manifold and is well on its way to become a leading medical college in the country and the region.
