Abstract:
Tobacco use remains a significant global public health concern, with detrimental effects on both systemic and oral health. This webinar primary delves into the vital role of dental practitioners in tobacco cessation who are uniquely positioned to identify, educate, and support patients in their journey towards tobacco cessation.

Dental practitioners have an opportunity to serve as frontline healthcare providers by routinely assessing and delivering brief interventions and pharmacotherapy. We shall be sharing anecdotal experiences and strategies used to make your dental practice more relevant for tobacco cessation. This integration of tobacco cessation into dental practice holds promise for improving both the oral and overall health outcomes of patients and communities worldwide.

Bio:

Dr. Vikrant Mohanty is currently the Professor and Head of the Department, Department of Public Health Dentistry, Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences (Govt. of NCT Delhi), New Delhi, India. I am also the Program Coordinator and Project Head, National Resource Centre for Oral Health and Tobacco Cessation under the National Oral health Program under the Ministry of Health and Family welfare, Govt. of India. I have more than 16 years of professional experience in academia, research, and dental practice. I have completed my Bachelors in Dentistry, followed by Masters in Public Health Dentistry and Masters in Health Care Administration.

Bio:

Dr. Rajesh Gururaghavendran is a seasoned public health professional and epidemiologist. He holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from VS Dental College and Hospital, Bangalore, India. Building on his foundation, he pursued a Master of Dental Surgery in Public Health Dentistry at SDM College of Dental Sciences & Hospital in Dharwad, India.
Committed to public health, Dr. Gururaghavendran completed advanced degrees, including a Postgraduate Diploma in Epidemiology and a Master of Arts in Psychology from the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in 2014 and 2016, respectively. He furthered his expertise with a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Promotion from PHFI in 2018.
In 2017, he earned a PhD from Manipal Academy of Higher Education, establishing himself as a notable figure in epidemiology and public health. His academic journey culminated with a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Boston University School of Public Health in 2023.
Dr. Gururaghavendran currently serves as a Medical Scientist III at the Institute of Child Health Policy, University of Florida. His diverse educational background and flourishing career reflect his unwavering commitment to improving public health and advancing medical science.
