Learning Objectives:

  1. Covid-19 has resulted in the world accepting that Remote Health care or Telehealth needs to be incorporated into the core of the healthcare delivery system. The dramatic changes in the last one year leading to exponential growth of Telehealth and the attempts made in the previous 2 decades will be highlighted
  2. The basics of setting up and providing teleconsultations will be illustrated
  3. The new ecosystem of disruptive business models to shift health care from hospital centric to beneficiary centric will discussed
  4. The basis of the Telemedicine Practice Guidelines notified by the Govt of India will be reviewed emphasizing that regulations are contextual and still based on trust
  5. A study of patients perspectives accepting teleconsults will be reviewed
  6. It will be stressed that technology is only a tool and that it is possible to empathise and provide Tender Loving Care even virtually. This alone will produce “customer delight”
  7. Importance of Digital Health Care particularly the plans of the Govt of India will be shared
  8. Successful Digital interventions which have contributed to India’s success in Covid-19 Management will be presented
  9. Take Home Message is that Digital Remote Health care will be the new normal and India is likely to take a global leadership role as evidenced by funds allotted for healthcare in the annual budget

K. GANAPATHY M.Ch. (Neurosurgery), FACS, FICS, FAMS Ph.D. is a Past President of the Telemedicine Society of India. former Secretary and Past President of the Neurological Society of India and Past President of the Indian Society for Stereotactic & Functional Neurosurgery, Formerly Adjunct Professor, at the IIT Madras, & Anna University he is Hon Distinguished Professor at The Tamilnadu Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai. Dr. Ganapathy was formerly Honorary Consultant and Advisor in Neurosurgery Armed Forces Medical Services. In 1990, he became the first in South Asia to get a Ph.D. in neuro-imaging. He is Member of the Editorial Board of 4 International and 3 National Journals in Telemedicine and Neurosciences. He was the first neurosurgeon from South Asia to be formally trained in Stereotactic Radiosurgery in 1995 and later in Robotic Radiosurgery in 2008. He ventured into Telehealth in 1998. During the last 45 years, he has presented more than 505 papers in national conferences and 169 in International meetings. He has published about 261 scientific papers & 19 chapters in books.. Delivered 29 lectures online via webinars, wrote 4 articles in newspapers, authored three articles on peer reviewed journal and scheduled “Certificate Program on Telehealth Practice” specifically with reference to Telehealth and COVID-19 Pandemic. Formerly member of the Advisory Committee Dept of Science & Technology GoI he is currently a member of BIRAC committees (Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council) Govt of India reviewing research projects for funding. Columbia University had selected ATNF as a case study to demonstrate global best practices. He is also on the WHO Roster of Experts on Digital Health.
