Speaker Bio: Gianvito Martino is the Scientific Director of IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, as well as Group Leader of Neuroimmunology Unit and Full Professor of Experimental Biology at Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele. He received his Medical Degree from the University of Pavia and completed his residency in Neurology. He was a Visiting Scientist at the Department of Neurology of the Karolinska Insititute and he held the position of Research Associate at the Department of Neurology of the University of Chicago. He is the founder and the Scientific Coordinator of the European School of Neuroimmunology (ESNI) and the Global Schools of Neuroimmunology (GSNI). He has been a member of the scientific committee and reviewing panel of ECTRIMS, FISM, MSIF, INSERM; UKMS Society, Wellcome Trust’s Peer Review College. He received over the years numerous scientific awards including the Rita Levi-Montalcini Award. He is co-author of more than 250 original articles and book chapters. His scientific interests range from the elucidation of the pathogenic mechanisms of immune-mediated central nervous system disorders to the development of gene and stem cell-based therapies for the treatment of these disorders.
