Title:

The Superpowers of Minimally Invasive Prosthodontics with the Digital Revolution: A Clinical Report

Abstract:

This clinical report describes the digital workflow implementing different virtual and digital aids in prosthodontically restoring tooth wear, and loss of occlusal vertical dimension (OVD) conservatively in an adult with pseudo class III malocclusion, using computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) monolithic lithium disilicate ceramic restorations.

 Introduction:

The management of cases with collapsed occlusion, though challenging, can be simplified through adopting systematic full mouth rehabilitation protocol to deal with loss of tooth structure and vertical dimension and address problems as poor esthetics and occlusal malfunction. However, the esthetic and functional rehabilitation of teeth should follow the principles of minimally invasive prosthodontics whenever applicable, since the conservative biomimetic prosthetic options have become increasingly feasible, due to the introduction of modern adhesive techniques and recent restorative materials with similar properties to those of natural teeth. Recently, the virtual world is leading a digital revolution and entirely changing the dental field with digital-based technologies which can be implemented in a systematic and collaborative treatment plan starting from the diagnosis and ending with the fabrication of various components of the plan, achieving the aesthetic and functional success expected when full-mouth reconstructions are required. This report is a presentation of a clinical case that follows a digital functional and esthetic treatment planning workflow, minimally invasive prosthodontic approach, and CAD-CAM monolithic lithium disilicate ceramic restorations to treat tooth wear, loss of vertical dimension, anterior cross bite and their subsequent esthetics and functional complications.

Learning Objectives:

  1. The attendee should be able to explore different treatment planning options for complicated prosthetic rehabilitation cases
  2. The attendee should be able to discover more about the recent advances in the field of digital dentistry
  3. The attendee should be able to conserve tooth structure and utilize different adhesion techniques while restoring the teeth with adhesive restorations.
  4. The attendee should be able to properly select the preparation design, restorative material, and fabrication technique for each case.
  5. The attendee should be able to recognize the importance of digital workflow to deliver predictable esthetic and functional restorations.
