Maintenance of Oral Health in the Microbiome Era

Dentistry

October 06, 2022 - 16:00 - 17:00 (UAE time)

Topic Description :

Maintenance of Oral Health in the Microbiome Era

Abstract:

There’s an increasingly evidence that the periodontal disease, peri-implant disease and also tooth decay is caused by a dysbiosis of the oral microbiome. The oral microbiome is a highly rich polymicrobial community second only to intestinal microbiome for bacterial species richness and diversity. This microbial community in a healthy mouth works to provide benefits for the human host. When dysbiosis occurs, led by some specific drivers, this shift of the microbial biofilm guides the onset of pathology. What clinical steps should we perform to avoid the dysbiosis. Is it possible, in healthy patients, to modulate the microbiome in a protective way? Since we plan a long-term maintenance for our patients, especially high-risk groups, how can we achieve stable results over the years? The lecture will present the latest information about the role of microbiome in oral health and how to modulate it in our daily patients’ risk assessment.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To perform a correct risk assessment to plan a long-term maintenance and follow-up
  2. To choose the correct therapy to modulate the microbiome in periodontal and implant patients
  3. To protect microbiome eubiosis and contrast dysbiosis
  4. To prescribe probiotics in the most effective way
  5. To select the most appropriate chemical plaque control in high-risk group during the supportive therapy
