Back to the New Basics on Stain Removal in the Dental Hygiene Appointment

 

Abstract:

Removing stains and biofilms in the dental hygiene appointment can be a real challenge both for the professional and the patient in the emergency period of Covid 19. The lecture will review the types of stains that one can expect to remove mechanically by mean of rubber cups and polishing pastes, tricks and tips for an individualized approach, and the techniques to adopt in the dental chair in an acceptable aerosols-producing procedure.

It will be covered the motivations to communicate to the patient to prevent stains accumulation, what they can do at home and when it’s needed the dental hygienist performance. Pros and cons of rubber cup polishing compared to traditional air polishing will be examined. Clinical solutions for optimal care will be discussed for effective and efficient results without overtreat the natural and synthetic dental surfaces

Bio:

Consolata Pejrone has a Certificate Degree in Dental Hygiene from Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists and an Associate Degree of Science in Dental Hygiene by the NorthEastern University in Boston, Massachusetts (USA).

She had obtained the Expanded Functions for Dental Hygienists certified by the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles (USA). Successfully attained the National Board for Dental Hygienists, the Northeast Regional Board in Boston and the California Board at the University of Southern California (UCLA) in Los Angeles. After completing her undergraduate degree in Genoa, Italy, she attended the post graduate course in Community Health and WHO procedures by the Chair of Pedodontics at the University of Milan (Italy) and got the Master Degree in Preventive Dentistry by the University La Sapienza of Rome (Italy).

Teacher for over 25 years, at first at the Dental Hygiene School and Dental School at the University of Genoa and then, to date, faculty member in the Dental Hygiene School and at the Master in Community Health at the University of Turin (Italy).

She is an expert clinician and practices the profession as dental hygienist in different private practices in Northern Italy. She is consultant and clinical coordinator for the EMEA area for Hu -Friedy Co.

She volunteers in several local communities with special needing children, mothers, teen-agers and immigrants with the non-profit organization COI (Cooperazione Odontoiatrica Internazionale).

Co-author in few professional dental hygiene and preventative books, she is speaker of several national and international continuing educational programs. She holds lectures, seminars and webinars to dental hygienists, dental assistants, general dentists, periodontists, medical doctors.
